"Committed to Loving God, Loving Each Other and Reaching Out to People"

777 25th Ave, East Moline, IL

First Presbyterian Church of East Moline

OUR CHURCH MISSION STATEMENT

First Presbyterian Church of East Moline, IL, a part of the body of Christ, affirms that God loves all people.  As children of God, we are called to live His word and to witness to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  As Christians, we are personally involved in service and fellowship.  We celebrate together in worship and sacraments, care for and minister to each other and grow in faith by study and prayer.  We show God’s love through our acts.

Our mission is to be a center of worship that inspires and gives meaningful direction; that provides spiritual nourishment and Christian education; and that serves the needs of the congregation, the community and the world.  We welcome everyone to this place of faith in a secular world.

WITHIN THE CHURCH

The Commissions of our congregation: Christian Education, Mission, Outreach and Fellowship, Finance, Property, Worship and Music meet on the first and second Thursday of the month.

At FPC we invite people in our community to come and get to know us through a variety of Outreach opportunities. Some years we offer a Community Easter Egg Hunt, a Blessing of the Animals Outdoor Worship Service, Trunk or Treat, and exercise classes. The Woodcarvers meet once a week on Thursday evening in the basement of the church and a show and sale are offered in the fall.

Outdoor Labyrinth for the Community—Open Dawn to Dusk Year-Round
The winding path of the Labyrinth dates back, in Christian tradition, to the 12th century European cathedrals, particularly in France and Italy.  During the era of the Crusades it became incredibly dangerous to travel or pilgrimage to the Holy Land.  The journey of the Labyrinth was used by many of the faithful to substitute for the journey to Jerusalem.  In both instances, we are taken to a Holy place.  Walking in silent prayer has long been seen as a symbol of the sacred meeting of mind, body and heart.   While Labyrinths come in many forms, our Labyrinth is a full-scale duplication of the most famous of all Labyrinths, the Labyrinth of 1220 found in France’s Chartres Cathedral.  It was created in 1997, and was the first public Labyrinth in the Quad Cities.  If you would like more information about our Labyrinth, a brochure is available in the Church Office.

Hands On Mission

Tutoring at Local Schools
For many years people from FPC have shared their time with children at our local elementary school.  You are invited to share an hour or more of your week tutoring children in Kindergarten through 4th Grade as they learn.  You will be paired with a specific teacher and class as you make a difference in the life of children in our community.

Prayer Shawl Ministry –  2nd Saturday of the Month—9:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m.
Since February 2007 crocheters and knitters have gathered to create Prayer Shawls and Lap Robes. Hundreds of Prayer Shawls and Lap Robes have gone to people in our community and around the country.   We are always looking for crafters from inside and outside the church to come join us once a month.  As we make the Prayer Shawls we pray for the person who will receive it, then as a group we lay our hands on what we’ve made and pray for the recipients.  Finally the Prayer Shawls and Lap Robes are brought into worship and blessed during Sunday Worship.  We see these gifts as a hug from God and a hug from First Presbyterian Church.   If you or someone you know is in need of a Prayer Shawl, please contact the church office or talk to our Pastor on Sunday morning.

God's Kidz Mission
God's Kidz in Mission:  The children started making fleece scarves for area school children in need, as a birthday present for Baby Jesus in 2007.  It was such a popular mission project that it has continued as an annual project – the children now make over 100 scarves a year, which are given to local schools for teachers to give out.

Place Flags at the Arsenal for Memorial Day Weekend
On the Thursday before Memorial Day Weekend in the afternoon we join others from around the Quad Cities to place American flags on all of the graves at the Arsenal.  The group rides together in the Church Bus.

CROP Walk for Hunger –First Sunday in October—We Walk Because They Walk
“CROP Hunger Walks help to support the overall ministry of Church World Service, especially the grassroots, hunger-fighting development efforts of partner agencies in some 80 countries. CROP Hunger Walks help to provide tools of hope...From seeds and tools, to wells and water systems, to technical training and micro-enterprise loans.  In addition, each local CROP Hunger Walk can choose to return up to 25 percent of the funds it raises to local hunger-fighting programs.”  Each year Churches United chooses local hunger ministries to receive 25 percent of the funds raised.

At First Presbyterian Church we believe we are serving God when we are serving other people.  If you are interested in joining us in one of our Mission Projects, please contact the Church Office.  309.755.1595
